From 1809 until her final months in 1817, Jane Austen lived in Chawton Village near Alton with her mother; her sister, Cassandra; and their friend Martha Lloyd. It was there, at her small writing desk, that she wrote some of the greatest works in literary history.

This watercolor scene is based on one of my own photos from the Jane Austen House Museum in Alton, England. The placement of the window, fireplace, Jane’s actual writing table, and clock are all from my own experience at the museum. I used various reference images from different Jane Austen portraits to capture her torso and bonneted curls. Here she is writing, in the first floor sitting room, whilst people in the country village of Chawton pass by her window.
